🌍 De omgeving van Auvergne

Nestled in the heart of France, the Cantal region is a treasure trove of natural beauty, cultural richness, and historical significance. Known for its stunning landscapes, the region offers a serene and picturesque setting that is ideal for those seeking a tranquil and fulfilling lifestyle. With its rolling hills, lush valleys, and majestic mountains, Cantal is a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

The region is renowned for its diverse and breathtaking natural scenery. The Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans d’Auvergne, one of the largest regional natural parks in France, is located here. This park is home to a range of outdoor activities, from hiking and cycling in the summer to skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. The area’s volcanic origins have created a unique landscape of craters, lakes, and volcanic peaks, offering endless opportunities for exploration and adventure.

Cantal’s cultural heritage is equally impressive. The region is dotted with charming medieval villages, each with its own unique history and character. Visitors can explore ancient castles, Romanesque churches, and traditional farms that have been preserved through the centuries. The local markets are vibrant and lively, offering a taste of the region’s rich agricultural heritage with fresh produce, artisanal cheeses, and local specialties.

A highlight of the Cantal region is the town of Aurillac, the capital of the department. Aurillac is a vibrant town with a rich cultural scene and a welcoming community. Its historical architecture, with charming streets lined with medieval buildings, adds to its appeal. The town is home to the impressive Saint-Géraud Abbey, which dates back to the 9th century, and the Château Saint-Étienne, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Specialties such as Cantal cheese, truffade, and aligot are a must-try for any visitor.

The city is home to the famous Cathedral of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, a stunning example of Gothic architecture built from black volcanic stone.

Clermont-Ferrand is also renowned for its cultural and sporting events. The city hosts the International Short Film Festival, one of the largest and most prestigious short film festivals in the world. Additionally, the Michelin headquarters are located here, and the city has a strong industrial and economic base. Extra informatie over de aankoop

As said above, there are a few things to do on this house:

- Insulation / Plasterboard
- Electricity
- Plumbing
- Flashing around the chimney (this means redoing cement around the chimney and then covering it with sheet metal)
- Kitchen and bathroom installation

There is a large fire stove in the apartment at garden level, on top of the one on the ground floor. We were going to install heaters on the first floor and in the attic. Firewood can be stored in the cellars or under the balcony.

The house sewerage goes into the town's sewerage so no fosse sceptique to worry about.

There's an apple tree and a pear tree that give beautiful fruit. There is a manual water pump that needs to be restored but should still work.

The beams of the roof are in great condition, and the roofing doesn't leak (other than around the chimney when it rains a lot).

We pay around 300-400 in property tax every year.

In the town of Thiézac you will find a post office, a pharmacy, a doctor, a restaurant, a pizzeria, a gas station, a hotel, a tobacco shop, a small convenience store, a camping, a soccer field, tennis courts and playgrounds for children. There's a carpenter and a plumber in town, other artisans are nearby.

There are lots of short walking trails for everyday walks.

There's a slightly larger town between Thiézac and Aurillac called Vic sur cère where you'll find a supermarket and a garage. The closest hospital is Aurillac.

We have chosen to leave because my wife has found her dream job a couple of hours away.

The photos we have were taken on a sunny day, but they show a lot of our mess. I will be emptying the house in the coming weeks, so you would find it empty if you were to purchase it. I will update the photos when it's empty.

Fell free to contact us if you have any questions. We speak English and French.
